‘BSP to go it alone in UP’

BAHUJAN SAMAJ Party leader Mayawati said today her party would contest the coming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on its own and would have no alliance with any party.

Talking to newspersons after a month-long tour of the state, she said her party was confident of getting absolute majority in the polls. She said that the Congress and the Samajwadi Party had lost their base, while the ruling BJP was resorting to gimmicks in panic.

She then attacked Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Ajit Singh and said that he had neither principles nor any political programme. Like Ram Vilas Paswan, she said, Ajit Singh loved power and had "sold off" his Harit Pradesh programme to the BJP.

The BJP on the other hand stated at Saharanpur that it was opposed to any more new states.

“But the BSP would support the formation of Harit Pradesh if and when the issue came up at the Central or state level,” she added.
