Lucknow, July8, A 42 year old Dalit woman was gang raped by nearly 14 people, of a Yadav family, and then burnt alive in full public view yesterday. Her ‘crime’: her son eloped with the daughter of one of the culprits.

Police have still not arrested the culprits at Kabraha village under Chaubeypur police station of Kanpur. Three policemen, including the station incharge, have been suspended for "abetting" the offenders.

The victim and husband Rajendra, a Jatav and two sons Sunil and Sudhir were held captive by the culprits for nearly eight days and tortured. The culprits decided that the mother should pay the price for her son’s "wrongdoing".

Surendra, her son, had eloped with Radha, the daughter of a Yadav family on June 29 but the report was lodged with the police on July 5 after the influential Yadavs had already tortured the Jatav family.

The role of a police is under a cloud. Local cops know that the family was being detained and tortured but did not do anything because of Yadav’s clout there. Now PAC personnel have been deployed to prevent a clash. ENS
