Dalit body demands debate on untouchability VIJAYAWADA: Members of National Campaign on Dalit Human Rights has been conducting phase-wise agitations in the State demanding a discussion on untouchability and caste discrimination prevalent in Andhra Pradesh at the World Conference against ‘‘Racism and Racial Discrimination’’, said Dalit Bahujan Front state coordinator K Vinaya Kumar. He appealed to SCs and STs to send postcards and e-mail messages to the President, the Governor and the United Nations Human Rights Commission to press the demand. The conference is scheduled to be held in Durban, South Africa, from August 31 to September 7. Over 160 delgates from from various countries will attend the meet. Speaking to mediapersons on Wednesday, he said the members of the campaign were conducting padayatras and rallies in the State to create awareness among the public. Dharnas will be organised at all the district collectorates on July 3. Kalajatas and cultural programmes will be conducted in Hyderabad on June 30 against caste discrimination, untouchability and atrocities on Dalits. He demanded that the State government should announce Justice Punnaiah Commission report, which was submitted on May 31 this year and constitute a commission for enforcing the SC and ST Atrocities Act strictly |
