VIJAYAWADA: Dalits of Tankara village in Mahboobnagar district of Andhra Pradesh were fined Rs 5000 by the upper castes for entering a temple on April 5, the 94th birth anniversary of former deputy Prime Minister and Dalit Leader Babu Jagjivan Ram, according to CPM State secretary B V Raghavulu.

He told reporters here that his Party would organise padayatras to create awareness among dalits about their rights for a week from April 14, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar, in over 100 centres, where untouchability still existed.
