BANGALORE, Aug 27: Various Dalits organisations today held a protest demonstration near Chief Minister S M Krishna's home office here demanding the withdrawal of the notification which they claimed affected the SC/ST engineers in Public works and Irrigation departments. Activists from organisations including Karnataka Dalit Sangarsha Samiti, Karnataka Dalit Workers Federation and Karnataka Dalit Women's Federation participated in the protest rally. Addressing the gathering, the leaders said the Supreme Court's order pertaining to Badappanavar case should not be implemented with retrospective effect, as carried out by the State Government.

They alleged that the Chief Minister had bowed to the pressure from a section of engineers and had demoted engineers belonging to SC/ST categories much against the Court directions. The leaders also demanded that job reservation for SC/ST candidates should be based on 1991 census and not as per 1981 census. He also sought dismissal of about 12,000 employees who got jobs by allegedly furnishing fake sc/st caste certificate.
