Elated BSP to contest local body elections Hyderabad, July 28: The State unit of the Bahujan Samaj Party has decided to contest the ensuing local bodies elections including the MCH polls, following its encouraging performance in the panchayat raj elections held recently. BSP State president Y Shankar said the party would field candidates at places where it has considerable strength. In the panchayat raj elections concluded recently, 31 BSP candidates were elected as MPTC members, while three were elected as ZPTC members, despite the misuse of power by the ruling TD. One of the party candidates also was elected as mandal parishad president and four were elected vice-chairmen, he said. "For the chairman elections to Visakhapatnam ZP, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu tried to lure our members and promised them posts in the Tribal Commission if they lend their support to the TD. However, the offer was withdrawn when they refused," he added.
