Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (DSS) State unit Convenor M Jayanna has said that successful functioning of democracy required equal opportunities for all in economic and social aspects.

He was speaking at the Dr Ambedkar Jayanthi function held at Timmappaiahanahalli near here.

He said inspite of five decades of the country’s independence, no section of the society had gained social and economic equality. All political parties which have formed the government have failed to make efforts for the betterment and equality of all classes, he added.

Stating that the society was not free from varnashrama system, he said that the system would continue until inequality prevailed among human beings. He called upon the Dalits, backward class people and minorities to participate in politics to secure power.

Village unit Raitha Sangha President S Rajanna, who spoke on the occasion, said that Dr Ambedkar not only worked for the Dalits but for social and economic equality of all sections of the society.

Gram Panchayat President Tippeswamy, members Yashwant, S Raju, general secretary Jambanna and others participated in the function.
