Indigenous bodies threaten stir GUWAHATI, June 3 – Four frontal indigenous people’s organisations, viz, the United Peoples Front (UPF), All Rabha Students Union (ARSU), Karbi Students Union (KSU) and All Tiwa Students Union (ATSU), have in a joint statement urged the State Government to initiate steps for constitution of the Rabha Hasong and Tiwa Autonomous Council under the Sixth schedule of the constitution. The organisations also called for steps to include the Karbis living in the plain areas to be included in the Sixth Schedule and also to form the Karbi Langri Autonomous Council. The need of the hour is to organise tripartite talks among the aggrieved indigenous people’s bodies, the state as well as the Central governments, thrash out solutions to the long pending problems of the communities. Flaying the earlier Governments, the organisations also threatened to launch a people’s agitation in the near future for its charter of demands, stated a release. |
