Jharkhand job quota panel arrives at consensus The Times of India News Service RANCHI: The cabinet sub-committee on reservation policy arrived at a consensus in its final meeting held here on Thursday and decided to submit its report to the cabinet in its next meeting. The committee, formed on May 17, was scheduled to submit its report by May 27. However in view of divergent views and lack of consensus, it had asked for 10 more days' time for submitting its report. The chairman of the six-member sub-committee, Arjun Munda, however refused to divulge the details of the report but assured that it would be in the interest of all sections of people in Jharkhand. Other members of the committee are Sudesh Mahto, Ramjilal Sarda, P N Singh, Lalchand Mahto and Ramchander Kesri. The cabinet sub-committee had been constituted on May 17 to study the legal aspects of reservation, the limits of which had been stretched up to 60 per cent by the chief minister, Babulal Marandi. This had met with stiff resistance from tribal organisations which were demanding 60 per cent reservations for the Scheduled Tribes. Meanwhile, even as the meeting was underway, the Adivasi Chhatra Sangh held demonstrations before the project building and demanded 60 per cent reservation for tribals. |
