Krishnasamy to contest 2 seats By Our Special Correspondent CHENNAI, APRIL 19. The Puthiya Tamilagam president, Dr. K. Krishnasamy, would contest from two reserved constituencies - Ottapidaram and Valparai - in the May 10 Assembly poll. Dr. Krishnaswamy, sitting MLA from Ottapidaram, said he had decided to venture into the plantation area as well to ``prove that the PT is a party for labourers and the downtrodden''. A constituent of the DMK front, the PT was allotted 9 reserved constituencies and one general constituency in Tamil Nadu. Interestingly, Dr. Krishnasamy has chosen not to contest from Sankarankoil, which the DMK allotted to the PT despite a protest and eventual exit by the MDMK from the front. The DMK then justified the allocation of Sankarankoil to PT, saying Dr. Krishnasamy wished to contest from there. However, Dr. Krishnasamy told the media here today that Sankarankoil was a PT bastion and that the party was firm on getting the seat. ``However, had the MDMK leader, Mr. Vaiko, or his brother wished to contest there, I would have offered the seat to them''. He appealed to Mr. Vaiko not to dub the DMK front ``casteist'' as it was only an ``alliance for social justice comprising economically weaker communities''. When it was pointed out that the AIADMK general secretary, Ms. Jayalalitha, had filed nomination papers from two constituencies, Dr. Krishnasamy, in a lighter vein, remarked: ``Should there not be at least one similarity between me and the AIADMK leader''. Following is the list of other PT candidates: Mr. S. Thangapandi (Vasudevanallur), Mr. P. Duraisamy (Sankarankoil), Mr. K. Aiyer (Nilakottai), Mr. S. Chellaiah (Paramakudi), Mr. M. Palaniappan (Kolathur), Mr. S. Akilan (Namakkal), T. Nadaiazhagan (Valangaiman) and Mr. P. V. Bakthavatsalam (Sedapatti-non- reserved). |
