Phoolan had nominated brother NEW DELHI: Slain dacoit-turned-politician Phoolan Devi had a whopping Rs one crore bank balance and she had nominated her brother as her successor, police sources said on Friday night. Phoolan received the money as royalties from books written on her and the movie 'Bandit Queen' made on her life by film-maker Shekhar Kapur, the sources said. According to sources, the Samajwadi Party MP's first husband, Puttilal, had greater chances as heir to her properties than Ummed Singh, the last husband as the earlier marriage was not dissolved. Police sources said the prime suspect in the case, Sher Singh Rana has used Uma Kashyap, a political worker, to gain access to Phoolan. He also used to finance some of Kashyap's political activities, they said. By killing Phoolan, Rana hoped to gain political mileage and a strong foothold in his Rajput community, sources added.
