KOCHI: The Social Democratic Party (SDP), has urged the State Government to set up a Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe Commission, for the welfare of the community.

Addressing a news conference here on Thursday, the SDP chairman, K V Kumaran, said that the proposal for the commission was included in the Governor’s address in the Assembly, when the LDF Government assumed office in 1996.

But the Nayanar Government did nothing to realise it, he alleged.

Kumaran who alleged massive corruption in the utilisation of the special component and sub-plan funds under the Nayanar rule, demanded a comprehensive probe into fund utilisation.

The SDP would take out a vehicle rally from Palakkad to Thiruvananthapuram next month to press its charter of demands, Kumaran said.
