SC, ST panel chief visits Visakhapatnam Steel Plant VISAKHAPATNAM: Dileep Singh Bhuria, Chairman of the National Commission for Scheculed Castes and Schedlued Tribes, Government of India, visited the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) on Tuesday. Bhuria, accompanied by BS Parsheera, Joint Secretary, Government of India, and Vibha Sood, Director, SC, ST Commission, Hyderabad, visited various production units like the Coke Ovens, Blast Furnace and Steel Melting Shop (SMS). Senior officials of the VSP told them about the latest technology adopted in the plant and also the performance achieved by it. Bhuria appreciated the excellent performance achieved by the VSP on various fronts. The national commission Chairman inaugurated a newly-built SC & ST Cell housed in the Main Administration building. He later held discussions with BN Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, VSP, C Appa Rao, Director (Personnel) and other senior officials of the VSP. A presentation on the performance of the steel plant, welfare activities undertaken by the plant and the facilities extended to the SCs and STs in the plant was made to the dignitaries. The officials said that 22.6 per cent of the total employees belonged to the SC and ST categories. The visiting delegation expressed satisfaction at the welfare measures being implemented by the VSP. Bhuria and other officials reviewed the recruitment and promotion policies of the plant and made some suggestions. Later, representatives of the various SC and ST associations and unions submitted their memoranda to Dilip Singh Bhuria. |
