'Situation ideal for BSP to come to power in UP' PUNE: The situation in Uttar Pradesh is ideal for Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) to come to power in the next elections, party president Kanshiran has said. While BJP was hit hard by the Tehelka expose, the Samajwadi Party (SP) was confined to the "Yadav" stronghold pockets only and did not pose a political threat to BSP, Kanshiram told reporters after attending a function here last night. "As the voter in the state is fed up with BJP and Samajwadi Party, BSP is the only alternative", he said. Kanshiram said in the recent by-election in the state, BSP emerged victorious in one place and lost the other two seats by a thin margin while Congress lost deposit in all the three seats. The BSP chief alleged that the BJP government in the state was illegal as the party had come to power with the support from breakaway group of 12 BSP legislators. This breakaway group needs at least one-third majority to be recognised as a separate group, he said adding BSP has taken the matter to court, where it is pending for last two years. (PTI) |
