Tribals call for bandh

DH News Service

Imphal: The tribal chiefs of Moreh have called for a 13-hour bandh in Manipur on Friday to protest against the extension of the Naga ceasefire to the State. A meeting of all the tribal chiefs decided to observe the bandh along NH39 in the Imphal-Mayanmar Sector from 5 am on Friday.

Essential services would be left out of the purview of the bandh. The sit-in-protests against the extension of ceasefire were continuing in many districts. The protest would continue till a settlement was reached, the agitators said. The 24-hour bandh called by the All Jiribam Drivers' Association at Jiribam, bordering Cachar district of Assam, passed off peacefully on Wednesday.
