Tribals take out rally protesting govt inaction

MYSORE: The members of various tribal orgainsations in H D Kote took out a rally protesting against the Government delay in implementing decisions taken at a mini Cabinet meeting at the tribal settlement.

The tribals shouting slogans against the Government staged a symoblic dharna in front of the Tahsildar's office. Girijana Zilla Samithi president Somanna said the Government has failed to implemented the 20-point programme announced after the mini-Cabinet meeting held at Hosahalli Hadi on April 4

The State Government should immediately identify land to distribute among 2,241 landless tribals and urged the Government to provide a rehabilitation package to 628 families at D B Kuppe village with all basic facilities instead of replacing them from the Hadi they lived for decades, he said.

Somanna criticised the Government for its failure to ban the sale of liquor in tribal settlements from July 1 as announced by the Chief Minister after the mini-Cabinet meeting.

In a memorandum submitted to the Tahsildar, the tribal associations urged the Government to accommodate tribals in the forest department and the like.

They also demanded that the Government help tribals open fair price shops and extend all facilities to tribal children in Social Welfare department hostels and open 39 anganwadis.

The tribals wanted the Government to sanction more funds to health centres in tribal areas and release Rs 40,000 towards construction of new houses. They urged the Govt to take up categorisation of STs to ensure justice to tribals and primitive tribes and lay roads to 15 hadis in H D Kote taluk.
