http://tribuneindia.com/20000925/punjab.htm#9 PHAGWARA, Sept 24 - The Democratic Bahujan Samaj Morcha today organised a Doaba-level chetna rally here to observe anniversary of Puna pact done between Dr B.R. Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi in 1932. Morcha's national president and former MP Satnam Singh Kainth addressed the rally and a press conference that the morcha had launched a drive to mobilise and awaken Dalits and the poor by broadening the ambit of morcha by enrolling small farmers and secular Hindus. Since graph of the Bahujan Samaj Party had declined and its president Kanshi Ram was speaking the language of a "frustrate" leader, the Bahujan Samaj Morcha was the only alternative for amelioration and upliftment of the deprived and the Dalits, claimed Mr Kainth. Mr Kainth called Mr Kanshi Ram the author of present miserable plight of Dalits in Punjab. Mr Kanshi Ram failed to field any candidate for the Sunam Assembly by-polls even though morcha had offered to consider extending support in case it was sought, alleged Mr Kainth. Mr Kainth said zonal conference would be held at Moga and Amritsar on October 1 and 15. Such a conference would also be held at Bathinda climaxing into a state-level conference at Jalandhar in December. Today's rally adopted 11 resolutions. |
