Bombay in a jam as thousands arrive for Ambedkar function
www.rediff.com Correspondent in Bombay Traffic in many parts of Bombay was thrown out of gear as thousands of followers of Babasaheb Ambedkar landed in the city on the eve of his 45th death anniversary. His supporters headed for Chaitanyabhoomi, near Shivaji Park, in Dadar, to pay respects to him. According to the Bombay traffic police, Veer Sarvarkar road has been blocked for the followers of Dr Ambedkar, while Lady Jamshedji Road has been opened only for buses. Both roads connect the suburbs to the city and thousands of vehicles pass through each day. Due to this jam, traffic along the Western Express Highway, S V Road and Linking Road was also thrown out of gear. Every year, on December 6, followers of Dr Ambedkar come to Bombay from various parts of Maharashtra |
