KHANNA, Dec 29 - A case was registered today at the Payal police station against Gurdip Singh, alias Deepi, of Madnipur village, near Payal, for allegedly raping a Dalit girl of the same village.

According to the SSP, Mr R.N. Dhoke, the suspect is still at large.

Mr Jarnail Singh, father of the victim, had complained to the Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana, and the SSP, Khanna, accusing Gurdip Singh of raping his daughter. He alleged that the suspect had threatened to kill her if she reported the matter to anyone.

Mr Jarnail Singh stated in his complaint that not knowing about the rape he married his daughter to Bhajan Singh of Bugge Kalan village, near Amloh.

She gave birth to a female child after three months of her marriage on September 7, 2000. Mr Jarnail Singh said Gurdip Singh had come to the hospital and promised to marry her.

The newly born baby was thrown in the fields of Mallowal Tibby village. A case was registered against Mr Jarnail Singh's daughter at the Amloh police station under Sections 307 and 317 of the IPC. She is still under judicial custody and the baby is being brought up at SOS Children's village in Rajpura.
