Orissa tribal group gheraos police station after attack
Deccan Chronicle, 29th Sept. 2000 Baripada (Orissa), Sept. 28: Over 500 tribals gheraoed the Bangiriposhi police station in Orissa's Mayurbhanj district for more than three hours on Thursday in protest against an alleged police attack and arrest of some inhabitants of Badamtolia village near Baripada .The tribals alleged that the policemen in nine vehicles reached the village on Wednesday morning and indiscriminately attacked the villagers. During the incident 19 persons, including nine women, were injured. They demanded release of innocent people arrested by the police during the search operation and payment of compensation to the injured. The police had come to search for some accused persons involved in the assault on a forest range officer. |
