RSS behind statute review: Kanshi Ram
The Hindu: April 4, 2000 BHOPAL, APRIL 3. The Bahujan Samaj Party supremo, Mr. Kanshi Ram, today charged that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh was behind the exercise initiated by the BJP-led Centre to review the Constitution. Mr. Kanshi Ram made the allegation at a press conference here while asserting that his party would go ahead with the year-long campaign, which began on March 15, to oppose the special commission set up to review the Constitution. Mr. Kanshi Ram said the new RSS chief wanted the Constitution scrapped and replaced with a new one. Mr. Kanshi Ram referred to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar's speech, which he delivered in the Constituent Assembly on November 25, 1949, and said he had cautioned against in-built socio-economic disparities in the Indian society. It was unfortunate, Mr. Kanshi Ram, said those who had been oppressed and exploited failed to rise against forces which wanted to perpetuate the social inequalities. To a pointed query, Mr. Kanshi Ram admitted that for the last 10 years he had been a leader of ``worthless'' people who have ``failed to revolt'' against those who wanted to perpetuate the social inequalities. All his efforts were geared for mobilising them, he said . Asked about the legislators who recently deserted the BSP to join the Congress(I) in Madhya Pradesh, Mr. Kanshi Ram branded the newspersons present ``RSS men''. This remark angered the journalists and the press conference came to an abrupt end. |
