Shahu Maharaj

Shahu Maharaj (1874-1922), A Royal Revolutionary
Shahu Maharaj was a myriad-sided personality. He was a ruler who made revolutionary changes even at the risk of his crown and life. The anti-brahmin movement was carried by Shahu Maharaj after the demise of Rashtrapita Jotiba Phule. He took all the rights and captured Kolhapur State and became ruler of the state in 1894. Very soon he became a famous personality in western Maharashtra. In building vast dams and launching ambitious schemes, he proved to be the father of the Green Revolution in India. He was a law-giver who did signal deeds of social justice. A Saviour of the suppressed, oppressed and the underdog, he liberated them in his state from the shackels of bondage and gave them full human rights.
