Waman Meshram was invited by VODI (Voice of Dalit International, London) to give key note address in the 2nd International conference on "Dalit rights and Development". Delegates from many countries attended the conference alongwith few Indian Delegates.
There were several group discussions in this two day meet. The issue of several High Caste NGO's which gives lakhs of fund and this fund is utilised against the untouchables, tribals and other backward class people in India, was discussed. These agencies should be stopped from funding. Even in the Christian missionaries school the tribals and most backward class people are not allowed to take education. Only children’s of high caste people are studying in these sponsored schools. Hence strategies need to be change. Such type of issues were discussed and debated.
After this two day meet, Mr. Waman Meshram started his public meetings with many UK based organisations and also with individuals(NRI’s). In all the meetings he stressed for establishing international network of BAMCEF. Mr. Waman Meshram clarified the purpose of visiting UK. He said that his purpose was not to collect money from NRI's, as most of the people or organisations coming from India do. His objective was to spread Phuley-Ambedkarite ideology at international level and to concentrate on the movement running in India. He also put some suggestions in various meetings, which include.
1. The UK people should take initiative in spreading network of BAMCEF at International level.
2. The networking should cover all the areas of UK wherever our co-brothers are residing in first phase.
3. The international networking should have UK as its base.
4. One full time worker can be arranged by BAMCEF for spreading the network at international level.
5. Cadre camps will be arranged in UK.
6. Two days national convention shall be arranged in UK, so that people in UK can get acquainted with the movement.
All the members present in various meetings extended their support for each suggestion. People came out with the view that before these meetings nobody stressed on strengthening a movement rather nobody explained what movement is. Mr. Waman Meshram systematically and chronologically explained Ambedkar's movement. The inaugural speech was of three and half hours, followed by questions and answer session. He answered all the critical questions raised by UK people. All the delegates were really very happy to hear Mr. Waman Meshram.
He had also several individual meetings with dignitaries of UK. In one of meeting in Hotel, he meet one of the famous personality of UK, Dr.Vidya Sagar Annad, President Phoolon Devi Memorial Committee of UK. During discussions Mr.Waman Meshram extended the invitation of having Chief Guest of 18th National Convention to Dr.Vidya Sagar Annandji and he accepted the invitation.
The last meeting which was organised at the residence of Mr. Maulkiat Singh Bahalji was an important one and it started at 11.00 A.M. and ended at 9.00 P.M. The results of this meeting will get reflect in near future.
On 27 September 2001, Mr. Waman Meshram meet one of the historical personality Mr. Kenneth Griffith (He is the personality who tried to make the first film on Dr. Ambedkar and asked for visa to Indian Government, but after going through the script, Indian government refused to offer him visa). There was a hot discussion on this film of Dr. Ambedkar which Mr.Kenneth wanted to make. Later Mr. Waman Meshram assured Mr.Kenneth Griffith that his dream of making film on Ambedkar will definitely become reality in coming future. Mr. Waman Meshram asked for the original script of the film and Mr. Kenneth assured him to give it.
On 5th October one meeting was organised by All India Muslim Federation of UK at Indian Muslim Centre Main Hall. The meeting continued late hours upto 9.00 P.M. Mr.Waman Meshram explained on how the manuvadis are spreading the religious insanity against the converted minorities.
During this visit Mr.Waman Meshram also visited those historical places were Dr. Ambedkar was staying, also the library he was utilising for his research. The 17 days tour ended on 7th October and Mr. Waman Meshram returned back India on 8th October 2001.
